I tried pressing ctrl, alt and t, that didn't work, I tried alt and F2 and that also didn't work. bashrc file should allow you to open your terminal emulator. When don't put space for same: update-alternatives-config: command not found. I downloaded the gnome terminal as well but that hasn't worked. I tired running the alternatives command and I got the following error: when I put space before '-config': unknown arguement '-config'. When I click on the terminal, it shows the "busy" sign for a few seconds and then goes back to the arrow and nothing else happens. I can use the internet on the system etc. I put the flash drive in and everything loaded up perfectly. If your issue is solved, kindly indicate that by editing the first post in the topic, and adding SOLVED to the title. Rightclick on shiny new panel and choose Troubleshoot > Restore all settings to default. I downloaded Linux Mint 19.2 Tina 64 bit. How about this: Menu > Preferences > Panel > Add new panel. The hard drive crashed so I got it running with a 64GB flash drive with Linux on it. I grew up with windows so this is all new to me.
